The development of the traditional printing industry today lags far behind the Internet industry, and saving printing costs has become a key issue. Printing press cylinders play a vital role in print quality. The following will explain the maintenance method of the printing machine cylinder.
It is well known that excessive hardness of the cylinders on a printing press can lead to many problems: large increase in tone value, uneven dot density, increase in mechanical ghosting, failure of color control, jagged dot edges, blurred dots, half Grainy, solid patches of tonal patterns are not ideal for printing.
In order to save costs and avoid the above problems, the operator of the printing press must ensure the cleanliness, ink absorption and softness of the cylinder. Be sure to read the press manufacturer's hardness requirements for each cylinder when using it. Many manufacturers currently have different hardness requirements for cylinders depending on their function and their position on the press, but some manufacturers provide users with one hardness value that applies to all cylinders. Today, users must choose an appropriate hardness value for their printing cylinders and try to maintain this value as much as possible.
A common-sense knowledge that on every lithographic press, there are 125 variables that need to be controlled, so maintaining print consistency becomes a difficult goal to achieve. A prepress expert once said that they can produce digital plates with an error of less than 0.5% under the condition that the environment in the prepress shop is constantly changing. Many manufacturers can't do this right now, but they can manage their presses better by adhering to best practices and controlling workflow.
If you want the cylinders of the printing press to remain soft, it is recommended to wash them once a week with a decalcifying solution or hot water containing 15% vinegar. In addition to these, every weekend, the operator needs to thoroughly clean the drum with the ink roller cleaner, and the drum is rinsed again on Monday morning. Try to avoid using chemicals on the rollers, and most importantly, don't use steel pads. It is recommended that all cylinders on the printing press be removed for manual cleaning every quarter, and at the same time, the brackets and frames of the printing press should be cleaned. After these, you will be able to see the disappearance of stains and the improvement of printing quality.
In addition, it is worth noting that the rollers can harden when exposed to UV light or in an environment that is high temperature and prone to oxidation. So, try to store the rollers in a dark place and keep them away from heat sources and electric motors.
